Handshakes to avoid at the interview

Handshakes to avoid at the interview

interview

It is often said your handwriting talks about your inner nature. The beautiful is your handwriting, the more beautiful is your heart. Similarly your handshake with the interviewer speaks a lot about you. Try to get the right balance of force and grace to come across in the best light. As you know, your handshake says a lot about you so you want to make sure that yours is sending the right messages.

interview
    1. Nervous handshake: This kind of handshake is unfortunate and unavoidable. It is usually called sweaty handshake. It depicts your nervousness to the interviewer and nobody would like to shake a sweaty hand. To avoid this, you can wash your hands and wipe with a dry cloth before going for the interview. You can also apply talcum powder on your palm to help you with the moisture.

interview 2.Numb handshake: Your numb handshake may convey wrong message about you. It is also called dead fish. It appears as if the person has no bones. The interviewer may find you non-committal or uninterested and highly disengaging. It may depict your casual attitude about things. This type of a handshake indicates a reserved or a passive personality.

3.Crusher handshake: Handshake should be firm but not to that extend that you will crush the bone of the other person until he or she cringes it back. It is often referred to as the bone crusher. This type of a handshake is seen as being intimidating. The interviewer may find you aggressive and hard to work with.

4.Warm handshake: This type of handshake is said to convey the meaning of warmth, honest and trustworthy nature. The traditional grip is placed by the left hand on the other person’s right hand, thus covering it completely. This is the handshake with both hands and used while building long term trustworthy relationships.

5.Dominating handshake: If you feel your hand is being pulled toward the person or strongly guided in a different direction, then it is referred as dominating handshake. May be the person finds himself superior to you. Such people try to control you.
This type of non-verbal communication is, therefore, important to judge your personality in the interviews. Apart from the above handshakes, you should follow the tips given below.
  • Be careful about duration of handshake: A handshake should neither be too long nor too short.
  1. Too long handshake may make the situation uncomfortable and awkward for the other person and may put negative impression on the interviewer.
  2. Pulling away your hand too quickly could make you seem rude and over-smart. This is a handshake where the hands do not meet and it is rather just the fingers that greet.
  • Make eye contact: You should make eye contact while shaking your hand. It will make you look confidence. Looking across the interview room will make you appear anxious to the interviewer.
  • Wear a smile: Smile gently looking at the interviewer showcasing your optimism and positive personality.
  • Keep your hands dry: Keep your hands completely dry, clean and soft so that you seem confidence highlights your personality among the crowd.

A perfect handshake involves an equal balance and an equal amount of pressure from both the sides. Therefore, without crushing the other person’s hand, without dominating, hiding your nervousness, go for firm handshake showcasing your confidence and capability to do the job efficiently.
ALL THE BEST!

8 things to keep in mind while sitting for the interview

8 things to keep in mind while sitting for the interview 1. Make sure that your introduction is impressive: In the interview , most probably the first question asked is usually “Tell me about yourself.” Take 1-2 minutes to answer this question. You should include about your qualifications, past experiences, strengths and interests related to work, etc. Don’t repeat what is already written in the resume. The recruiter wants to hear something apart from that. Your introduction is the first impression on interviewer , therefore it should grab his attention so that he takes interest in whatever you say. If he asks you speak more, then he might be testing your communication skills so you can include about your parents and their profession, siblings and other family members. Also, you can speak more about your professional experience and your style of working. 2. Make use of felicitous verbal communication: Sometimes the interviewer might appear warm and friendly to you
