Do You Know Who You're Hiring?

Do You Know Who You're Hiring?
recruitment
Nowadays, background verification has become an essential part of the recruitment process. Companies conduct background verification checks to get information about your past work history, criminal records, educational credentials, and residential proof. It allows the hiring managers to learn more about the desirable information that many of the candidates won’t share on their resumes. If you’re waiting for job confirmation after an interview, the company is most likely scanning your career history and credentials.

Why background screening is gaining so much importance? Some candidates have fake degrees from unknown foreign universities, certification courses, bluff resumes, etc. and they present it with confidence at the interview. Employers want to hire trustworthy people and background checks offer the best way to prevent any hiring mishaps. Being hiring managers follow a set of guidelines to protect both the candidate and your company.

Background Verification Process:

Companies can start with background verification process by reviewing the resume, cover letter and references provided to the company with the candidate’s job application. Then thoroughly screen the candidate’s work history, college degrees, academic certificates, legal records, etc. The process might take 4-10 days or even more, depending on the company. Generally, a company runs a background check, once you qualify all interview rounds. Let’s understand the each component of verification process in detail.

recruitment
Resume verification – The candidate with fake certificates, degrees, etc. can prepare a forge resume in order to impress the interviewer. This may include irrelevant positions or large gaps of missing time. This is usually a warning sign that the candidate does not have the skills to perform the job they are applying for.

Public records verification – Companies can access the candidate’s court records and criminal history from any law enforcement agency. Company will come to know if any court case is going on the candidate or if the case has been filed in past. Any illegal activity may stand negative for the candidate and may lose the opportunity.

recruitment

Work history verification – Companies can dig up candidate’s past employers, dates he or she has worked with them, his or her role in each company, pay scale, performance history, conduct in the company, behavior, etc. Companies may start by calling the candidate’s last employer. They’ll check the details given them against data from candidate’s last company.

Education records verification – Companies can reach out to candidate’s university to match his credentials. The most common types of corporate frauds are forging degrees, fake certificates and bogus grades.

recruitment
Address verification – A candidate may hide the actual address and may mention the temporary address or friend’s address or relative’s address to get the job. Companies verify address by sending people to candidate’s physical locations. To avoid such frauds, usually organizations ask for address proof. It should be a document certified by the Government of India. Nowadays, most of the companies go for Aadhaar verification, it being the best and safest way for verification.

recruitment
Online verification – Every company, today, sweeps your social feeds. Social media is a tool to map the candidate’s interests, activities, and affiliations. With this, the hiring manager can picture the candidate’s personality before actually spending time with the candidate. Any objectionable picture or comment may make the company to kick the candidate out of the recruitment process. That’s why hiring for odds is popular these days.

Medical Verification – Physical fitness is mandatory for some employments such as Military forces, Air Force, Police, etc. The candidate has to pass the medical checkup test to get hired in the final interview or examination. If the candidate cracked all the examinations and interviews but failed in the medical examination, then he or she is rejected just for failure in the medical test. The test will tell if the applicant is hiding any kind of disability. If the candidate can perform essential job functions then hiring managers may not take the disability into account in decisions. Therefore, medical verification also plays an important role in some cases.

recruitment

Hiring new employees in today’s market has become challenging. Henceforth, the background check can help ensure you choose the right candidate for the position. You should never make critical decisions based on the arbitrary information. Be cautious to avoid making any discriminatory decisions based on a candidate’s health or finances. Being employers, maintain a healthy level of skepticism.

“Don’t try to cheat any company in the corporate world, they can anyway dig out your dirt and fire you immediately.”

And there you go! The background screening finishes here. For more information related to similar topics, keep reading my blogs.

8 things to keep in mind while sitting for the interview

8 things to keep in mind while sitting for the interview 1. Make sure that your introduction is impressive: In the interview , most probably the first question asked is usually “Tell me about yourself.” Take 1-2 minutes to answer this question. You should include about your qualifications, past experiences, strengths and interests related to work, etc. Don’t repeat what is already written in the resume. The recruiter wants to hear something apart from that. Your introduction is the first impression on interviewer , therefore it should grab his attention so that he takes interest in whatever you say. If he asks you speak more, then he might be testing your communication skills so you can include about your parents and their profession, siblings and other family members. Also, you can speak more about your professional experience and your style of working. 2. Make use of felicitous verbal communication: Sometimes the interviewer might appear warm and friendly to you

Don’t Boil the Ocean

Don’t Boil the Ocean Though the notion of boiling the ocean is dubious, the business professionals often insist on using this phrase but t he phrase should be used carefully as its meaning in the workplace is quite vague. It is usually used in group settings to focus on an out-of-control situation. Meaning of the phrase: To boil the ocean means to try hard to do or get something. It is the utilization of available resources to the point of detriment. It generally means to go overboard by making a task unnecessarily difficult.
